Amtrak from Sacramento to Denver - Day 1

We say goodbye to California as we take the Amtrak California Zephyr for an overnight ride from Sacramento, across the Rockies and the Sierra Nevadas, to Denver where we will spend a few days with my son, Ken.

The Sacramento Amtrak station was so pleasing to the eye.

Here comes the California Zephyr.

We immediately go upstairs to sit in the scenic Lounge Car.

We pass through Colfax, California.

And enter the Sierra Nevada Mountains,

As we gain altitude, we see snow everywhere.

I think this is Donner Pass.

Pat and Susan relaxing and snacking on some See's chocolates.

We pass through Truckee, California.

Ahh, the mountains are so beautiful.

Looks like a nice hotel.

A mini-neighborhood as we descend from the Sierras.

We enter the desert lands of Nevada.

Some small town in the desert,

Sunset in the desert ends day 1 of our ride.
